Respite and in-home presence: time for you, safety for your loved ones

Caring for a loved one every day requires considerable energy. Our respite service lets you breathe for a few hours, a full day, or overnight, knowing the person you love is supported by an attentive and caring professional.

Why respite is essential for family caregivers

Across Quebec, many people act as family caregivers for a parent, spouse, or child. This role is often carried continuously, day after day, with little external support. The resulting physical and emotional exhaustion is real and well documented.

Respite care is not a luxury. It is a fundamental need that allows family caregivers to rest, take care of their own health, maintain social life, and return to their loved one with renewed energy.

Nomade offers planned respite (on a recurring basis) and occasional respite (for an event, an appointment, or an urgent situation). In both cases, the person receiving support remains in the comfort and safety of their home.

Respite and in-home presence options

Daytime respite

A professional takes over for a few hours during the day so you can run errands, attend an appointment, or simply take time for yourself.

Evening and overnight respite

Monitoring and reassuring presence in the evening and overnight. This service is particularly suited to people who tend to get up at night, become agitated, or require overnight assistance.

In-home child care

In-home child care for families who need flexible support. Our caregivers are trained to support children in a safe and caring environment.

Continuous presence during longer absences

You need to be away for travel, hospitalization, or professional commitments. A caregiver ensures continuous presence with your loved one for the full duration of your absence.

Situations where respite makes a difference

You support an aging parent every day

Respite helps you maintain your work, your activities, and your social relationships without compromising your parent's safety. Even a few hours per week can have a significant impact on your energy and well-being.

Your loved one lives with a neurodegenerative condition

Supporting a person living with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia is especially demanding. Respite offers a moment of recovery while ensuring trained, attentive presence.

You are parenting a child with specific needs

Families of children living with autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, or complex medical conditions need regular respite periods to maintain family balance.

Frequently asked questions about in-home respite care

How much does in-home respite care cost?

In-home respite rates generally follow home support rates, typically between $40 and $55 per hour. Tax credits for senior home support and some private insurance plans may help reduce costs. Contact us for a personalized estimate.

How far in advance should we book?

For planned recurring respite, we recommend contacting us as early as possible to coordinate availability. For occasional respite, we do our best to respond to urgent requests quickly.

Can the professional also help with bathing and meals?

Yes. During the respite period, the caregiver can provide the same support services as in home support: help with bathing, meals, medication routines and mobility. It is full respite, not just passive presence.

Is respite available 7 days a week?

Yes, day, evening, night, weekends and holidays can be arranged based on availability.

Are there financial assistance options for respite?

Tax credits for senior home support may apply to respite services when the person receiving care is 70 or older. Some community organizations also offer support programs for family caregivers. Contact us to learn more about available options.

How should we prepare for the first respite visit?

Before the first visit, we contact you to gather essential information: your loved one's routines, health condition, preferences, medications, and safety instructions. The goal is to ensure the caregiver arrives fully prepared and that the transition is as smooth as possible.
